Bear Medicine Drums

 Available Styles
There several options for your drum.
Skins determine the overall sound and durability and tolerance to moister.
The thinner a skin is the more resonance it typically has and the more susceptible it will be to moister.
The thicker the hyde the thunkier the sound. Thicker hides have less resonance but handle moisture better.

Here’s a guide from thinnest to thickest:
Dear, Goat, Bear, Elk, Reindeer, Moose, Cow and Buffalo

Shape plays a roll on the sound and obviously the look.
Here’s your shape options:
16 sided looks mostly round 14”, 16”, 18”, 20”
Octagon (8 sided) 14”, 16” 18”

Wood
also plays a roll in sound, the harder and denser the wood the thunkier the sound.
Oak is very dense
pine is less dense
White Cedar is my preferred wood, it’s less dense, having the best resonance.
